Interpersonal work resources and school personnel well-being before and after lockdown during the first phase of the COVID-19 pandemic in Finland

This two-wave mixed-methods study used the job demands and resources model to examine effects of COVID-19 pandemic on school personnel's work well-being (including burnout, engagement, sense belonging) in spring 2020 Finland particular with respect collegial relationships (respectful engagement) leadership support. A pre-lockdown survey was administered prior (in January–February, n = 437) a post-lockdown after two-month lockdown (at end May, 270). At post-lockdown, personnel reported, average, more exhaustion, less engagement (measured as enthusiasm energy at work), decreased belonging than before lockdown. The period characterized highly burdening, many had missed their communities. On other hand, absorption related showed an increase, there no change burnout cynicism; only few expressed high levels cynicism, whereas reported positive experiences. interpersonal during were mediated by well-being. Respectful also directly associated higher over above belonging. Collegial described salient available lockdown, often perceived negatively pandemics. findings underline importance fostering respectful community interactions improving supportive cope crises while maintaining high-quality teaching student
